General Rules and Regulations:
Honor System – Bragging rights and genuine self-satisfaction are the sole rewards of this free event. Fair and accurate results will depend on the honor system and how well we all adhere to it. PSTS reserves the right to reject suspect entries.
Entry Period – From March 1 – through March 31, 2021
Entry Deadline – the deadline for receiving entry submissions is up until, and not including 12:00AM on April1, 2021 (USA Eastern time Zone)
Indoor Canoe Equipment – All race pieces submitted must be done on a current Model B PaddleSport Training Systems Canoe Paddling Adapter attached to a Concept2 Model B, C, D or E Indoor Rower that has a functioning electronic display. Note: there is a very long, two-part Model A paddling adapter that we made and sold for a little over two years back in 1994-1997. If you have a model A paddling adapter see: https://paddletraining.wpengine.com/resources/library/frequently-asked-questions/ you may use it to submit a time, however since the original Model A was 4% faster than the current Model B, all Model A submitted times, once received, will be adjusted to account for the difference. We don’t want to exclude those folks that have the older paddling adapter from being able to compete, but we do have to be fair, thus the 4% adjustment to total time.
Race Categories:
There will be the following categories:
For Marathon Canoe, solo and 2-person teams, including 2 genders and 3 age groups. There will also be a mixed team option that must include 1 female and 1 male entry.
For Outrigger Canoe, solo and 6-person teams, including 2 genders and 3 age groups. There will also be a mixed team option that must include a minimum of 3 female entries.
For Dragon Boat, 4-person teams, including 2 genders and 3 age groups. There will also be mixed team options that must include a minimum of 2 female entries
Competitors Entering Multiple Race Categories – Competitors entering multiple categories must submit separate entries for each race category. The same race piece may be used for multiple entry submissions.
Proper Age Entry – What matters and what should be entered on your entry form is your age on March 31st at 11:59:59.9PM USA Eastern Time Zone
Paddling Technique –All dragon boat entrants must paddle their timed, submitted piece on ONE SIDE ONLY. -All marathon and outrigger paddlers may paddle on either side alternating as they see fit throughout their entire piece.
Setting up your race – Your race must be preset on a Concept2 monitor for a countdown of the appropriate number of meters. Your time will count up as your meters counts down. On Concept2 monitors PM3 – PM5 Open the “Main Menu” next choose “Select Workout,” “New Workout,” “Single Distance,” then enter the appropriate distance and lastly hit the check mark at the bottom of the screen. Your race will start as soon as you take your first stroke and end when the monitor shows zero meters remaining. If you hit the “menu” button at the bottom as soon as your race is done, the monitor will then save your time in “Memory” and you can go back to it to confirm your time at a later time.
Distances – All Marathon and Outrigger races will be a distance of 5000 meters – All Dragon Boat races will be at a distance of 500 meters
Entry Forms
See the entry form below and submit by following instructions.
Each member of a 4-person dragon boat team, a 6-person outrigger team and a 2-person marathon team must submit their personal race time only. Once all entries for each team have been submitted and received, total times for the team will be calculated and compared for results. You will receive an email acknowledging your race submission.
Individual and Team Events – ALL FIELDS on the entry form must be filled out, including “Affiliation,” “Team Name” and “Paddle Adapter Model” for both team entries and individual entries.
If you are a marathon paddler entering a solo or 2-person category, you may enter “Unaffiliated” if appropriate for the “Affiliation” field and you must put your first and last name in the “Team Name” field for solo categories and both team members’ names in the Team Name field for 2-person categories.
If you are an outrigger solo entry you may enter “Unaffiliated” if appropriate for the “Affiliation” field and you must put your first and last name in the “Team Name” field.
If you are submitting an Outrigger 6-Person Team entry or a Dragon Boat Team entry the “Team Name” is a very important field. Each Team Name entry must match identically to be correctly attached to the proper team for results. The spelling and number of characters is crucial. This field is not case sensitive but we want each entry to have the same number of words and the same spelling for each word.
Results:
Results will be posted on the PSTS website: https://paddletraining.wpengine.com/ as quickly as possible following the deadline.
Team Results will be based on average times.
- For dragon boat teams, individual time submissions are required from all 4 team members.
- For outrigger teams individual time submissions are required from all 6 team members.
- For marathon teams individual time submissions are required from both team members.
